PLD Polymer Film Deposition via MAPLE

Polymer deposition from a vapor phase produced by laser ablation requires the use of low energy photons in the Visible to Near Infrared (VIS/NIR) range of wavelengths. PVD Products offers two approaches to PLD polymer films, Matrix Assisted Pulsed Laser Evaporation (MAPLE) and VIS/NIR Resonant Infrared Absorption. Both systems are based on our Nano PLD chamber design.

MAPLE Deposition Systems

Matrix Assisted Pulsed Laser Evaporation (MAPLE) was developed at the Naval Research Laboratory in the late 1990's to deposit polymer thin films. This process has been used to successfully deposit a wide variety of polymer and biological thin film materials.

RIR PLE Systems

The RIR PLE system is designed to deposit polymer materials using resonant IR absorption bands. The system uses a Nd:YAG laser pumped Optical Parametric Oscillator (OPO) to provide a tuning range into the near IR region. The system can be configured to work with MAPLE targets as well as solid polymer targets. The chamber is based on our small Nano PLD system and comes with a full software package.
